Develop a series of ‘drawings’ that enact a sense of the voice. This may be drawn texts, drawn textures, or sound, or you may wish to introduce objects and imagery.
From the RT’s Id gathered an understanding of how ‘Voice’ works within abstract art. And it made me think about the art Im drawn to, and how ‘Voice’ is evident. Before any large scale inspiration there is a spark from smaller work.
It can be something as simple as a swathe of colour with a piece of coloured washi tape. Or a collection of volumous brush strokes loaded with acrylic paint. Something that stirs and acts as an introduction.
To define it in the sense of a ‘Voice’ I would best describe as the artist or work simply saying ‘Hi!’
Hi! Is small but mighty. It can pull you out of a navel gazing shuffle down the street, into engagement. Or change an insecure situation into an inclusive one.
I now think these simple studies can do the same job.
They are not the whole conversation, or super serious. What they are is a concentrated intention from the artist.
Hi
Interjection
Used as an exclamation of greeting

These experimentations are the beginning of something ‘coming through’, an idea evolving. Collectively they naturally begin to coordinate. The silent pieces drop away and others remain in conversation. This is a very useful way of working to form a body of work. Tapping into the voice of the work brings meaning to what are otherwise subjective, and therefor abstract and debatable forms of communication.

This is the final piece that is the accumulation of the experiments above. I used the techniques to create an abstract landscape of the mountains of the Alps and Antartica combined. One of the terrain and one of the sea.
